It is the necessity of having quality healthcare at an affordable cost particularly in Mount Kenya region and in this country as a whole that motivated the proprietors of Outspan Hospital to start it. There existed glaring imperfections in the local market for healthcare, with the government and mission hospitals as the key players, but unable to make ago of the demand for quality healthcare. Hence, building and starting The Hospital was found as the solution that could alleviate this glaring need and at the same time offer the investors, who are patriotic Kenyan professionals, an opportunity to rise up to their social responsibility and improve the standard of healthcare in Mt. Kenya region and the country as a whole.

The outpatient department of the hospital was the first to be opened on 6th August 2001. The outpatient department consisted of the reception, consultation rooms, the laboratory and the pharmacy. This was soon followed by the inpatient department with an initial bed capacity of 21, on 24th September 2001. Currently, Outspan Hospital is now a fully fledged general hospital with an inpatient capacity of 100 beds. It is owned by Nyeri Medicare Services Limited, a company which was incorporated on 3rd March 1996 with the sole purpose of starting a hospital in Nyeri town. The company directors are the proprietors of the hospital.

We the Outspan Hospital community, strongly believe in our core values which are driven from our vision and mission statement. These values have resulted in an inbuilt culture, over the last seven years that we have been in existence, which have contributed to our steady growth from an outpatient clinic situated at Vera Towers in Nyeri town, to a fully fledged hospital that we are today. Our inherent strengths arising from these values hold a promise for a very bright future.
